Based on a review, I sized up for my almost 3 year old but I sized up way too much. The size 5-6 fits my 7 year old beautifully. She says that it's very comfy. I'd say that they larger sizes are true to size or maybe a larger than normal. My 7 year old fits a size 7 or 8 from Target, as a comparison.
